candle math

a couple of weeks ago i started spending a lot more time on candle-making. unfortunately i was born to use a computer and write code on it, which means i ended up building a couple of apps to help me, and perhaps other candle-makers, to do their craft.

the first app is ~candlemath, which is a calculator for helping you and i get the right amount of wax and fragrance oil depending on the candle vessel. this is one of those algebra problems that is not difficult to solve, but can be tricky because you're working with a sum of variable percentages.

another app i made is ~candlemakinginventory, which is a table of my candle making inventory, it's less the app that's useful to anyone else but moreso the data. i keep a json file of the inventory and the app turns it into a nice, sortable table.

both apps are open source and remixable on glitch. if the calculator doesn't help you, i hope that at least the inventory app stops you from buying some of the worst fragrances i've ever allowed into my olfactory system.
