weekly retro: playing radio, chandlery and blue prince
my upstairs neighbors are doing construction and it sounds like they tore out all the floors and/or they filled their pockets and boots with heavy weights, so i've had to take about seven (7) breaks as i try to write this.
i spent a lot of time outside last week. with spring finally springing and easter later in the week, my neighbors really popped off with the tulips and daffodils.
it's become so important that we never leave for an engagement late or in a rush, because we need the time to stop so i can photograph every beautiful flower and exclaim how i'd love to drink ice water out of them.
🙃
this week i started a monthly plan at my aerial yoga studio. i used to buy 10-pack passes but it was still too pricy for me to go 2x a week. now on the monthly, i'm motivated to go more, and it's affordable to go up to 3x a week. between the gym and yoga unlimited memberships, i'm paying $210 a month on fitness - which is really good (eyes roll to the back of my head) for nyc area prices.
are we still worried about bird flu? is it not a big deal in general or is it not a big deal relative to everything else going on right now?
andy is into ham radio, and now that it's getting nicer out we've been going to parks to "play radio". it's a great way for us to get some sun, steps and fresher air, and sometimes we hear a guy talking about how he got his license in the 70s. the experiences almost have me ham-pilled but i don't know if i have the executive function right now to launch my candle store and take an exam.
i think i'm going to launch bugs rock next week. i'd mentioned the last thing i've been working on is adding a scented candle to the first collection, and that involved a lot more testing and redesigning cycles than i had anticipated - that's showbiz, baby!
there was a figure drawing session this week that i went to. i didn't stay the whole time because we hadn't had dinner yet and it was getting late. it's still hard to keep my attention on a drawing for a full 20 minutes, but it's also hard for models to keep their pose still for that entire time, so i don't feel so bad. 5 minutes used to be my favorite, but now i think my sweet spot is 10 minutes - perhaps that means 20 minutes will be a future favorite if i stick to it.
things i enjoyed this week
- i replaced my plain desk mat with a self-healing cutting mat (they're often on sale on blick and it has been such a convenience to have rulers just there. it's such a simple and affordable change, but also a great "lifehack" for me.
- going outside. that's it, i've really enjoyed it. if you haven't done it much, give it a try, i know some of us need the reminder.
- but also staying inside. i've really been enjoying playing blue prince every night with andy. i can't say anything more because everything is a spoiler no matter how far or not into the game you are, but i can say that playing puzzlers with a partner is great and it's been something we've both been looking forward to everyday.
i'm going to be publishing a blog of my sketches from last week's figure drawing session, and i also think i'll have a proper review of some fake meat i bought and made. if you don't see those this week, you can blame my upstairs neighbors and/or [redacted details from blue prince gameplay].
